Christening Gown Exhibition 2022

In September 2022, we hosted a one-off exhibition of Christening robes which included very special and interesting examples.

Over 45 gorgeous gowns from the mid 1800s to present day were on display for viewers to look at and learn the history behind them.

Some gowns were sewn entirely by hand while others belonged to well-known people in the town.

One of the robes exhibited was made by hand in Ayrshire lace over 200 years ago.

The exhibition also featured live craft demonstrations of knitting, crocheting, sewing and spinning.
